US Supreme Court Gives South Carolina the Green Light to Defund Planned Parenthood

The US Supreme Court restored South Carolina’s attempt to defund Planned Parenthood, overturning a ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In 2018, Governor Henry McMaster signed an executive order to terminate abortion clinics as Medicaid providers, but it was blocked by a lower court judge.

Yesterday, the US Supreme Court sent the case back to the lower court for reconsideration.

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Chris Schandevel expressed support for the decision, stating that pro-life states should have the authority to determine Medicaid funding recipients.

Governor McMaster and the state legislature have made various efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, which commits around 330,000 abortions annually. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion business in the U.S., with a recent annual report showing 332,757 abortions and $1.66 billion in revenue.
