Planned Parenthood’s 2021-22 Financial Report: $2 Billion in Income, $670 Million from Taxpayers

Planned Parenthood, the world’s largest abortuary, has released its annual report, shedding light on the state of abortion services and non-abortion-related care. The data raises concerns about the overwhelming focus on abortions, the decline in life-affirming healthcare services, and the increasing reliance on public funding.
It is time the American people reject public funding for abortion and a shift toward prioritizing comprehensive life-affirming healthcare services such as those offered by pregnancy care centers.
Declining Abortion Rates
Planned Parenthood performed 374,155 abortions in the 2020-2021 period, marking a slight decrease from the previous year. However, it is alarming to note that over the past ten reports, the organization has committed more than 3.4 million abortions. These statistics indicate a long-term trend that necessitates a closer examination of the services being provided.
Lack of Focus on Non-Abortion Services
Planned Parenthood’s report reveals a concerning disparity in the distribution of services provided by Planned Parenthood. In the 2020-2021 period, abortions constituted a staggering 97.2% of their pregnancy resolution services. In stark contrast, prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for a mere 1.6%, 0.7%, and 0.5%, respectively. This imbalance raises questions about the organization’s commitment to providing comprehensive care to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Abortion-to-Adoption Ratio
An equally disconcerting revelation is that for every adoption referral made by Planned Parenthood in 2020-2021, the organization performed a shocking 208 abortions. Over the past ten annual reports, this ratio has averaged approximately 130 abortions for every one adoption referral. Such a lopsided emphasis on abortion undermines the popular narrative that Planned Parenthood offers real choice to women and shows that far from it, Planned Parenthood is a veritable abortion mill.
Decline in Vital Healthcare Services
Planned Parenthood’s own annual reports reveal a decline in all services since 2010. Total services, including abortion, have decreased by 17.1%, but non-abortion related services such as cancer screening and prevention services have experienced a drastic 71% decline. Specifically, breast exams have decreased by 74% and pap tests by 70%. Moreover, prenatal services have plummeted by 85% from their peak in 2009, while contraceptive services have seen a 36% decline. These numbers underscore the diminishing focus on comprehensive healthcare and prevention, and a doubling down on the taking of innocent unborn lives.
Rising Reliance on Public Funding
Planned Parenthood’s financials present another cause for concern. In the 2021-2022 annual report, the organization reported $1.9 billion in income and over $2.3 billion in net assets, indicating a significant increase from the previous year. Taxpayer funding, in the form of government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements, amounted to $670.4 million—representing a 35% contribution to Planned Parenthood’s overall revenue. These figures demonstrate an alarming rise in public funding for an organization heavily focused on abortion services.

Planned Parenthood 2020-2021 Report
The data presented in Planned Parenthood’s annual report should serve as a wake-up call to all pro-lifers to vociferously oppose the continued public funding for abortion mills.
With declining non-abortion services, an overwhelming emphasis on abortions, and a substantial increase in taxpayer funding, it is essential to prioritize comprehensive healthcare services that actually focus on the needs of women and children.
A balanced approach that respects and values all life would ensure that more resources are directed toward education, prenatal services, adoption support, and other vital healthcare needs. It is time to shift the focus and make a difference in the lives of women by providing holistic care and empowering alternatives to abortion.
