Pennsylvania Constitutional Amendment Advances: No State Right to Abortion

As we discussed in this prior article in American ProLifer, “now that Roe v Wade has fallen, the pro-life movement must prevent state supreme courts from creating state rights to abortion under the state constitutions.”
On Friday, the Pennsylvania legislature began to do just that, advancing an amendment through the legislature’s upper chamber.
The resolution simply declares the true fact that there is no right to abortion in the state constitution of Pennsylvania.
The Constitution of Pennsylvania, drafted in 1776 with the participation of Benjamin Franklin, may only be amended if a proposed modification receives a majority vote of two consecutive sessions of the General Assembly and then is approved by the electorate. The Pennsylvania Senate’s vote was just the first step in a long process, but on Friday, the Republican led Senate took the first step, approving the measure by a vote of 28-22.
Immediately, Democrats began to attack Republicans calling the attempt to prevent the Quaker State from becoming an abortion Mecca, an extreme act.
The Pennsylvania state constitution does not give the governor the power to veto constitutional amendments, but Democrat Josh Shapiro is attempting to rally support around his advocacy for the “right” to kill children before they are born.
Pennsylvania is home to America’s greatest serial killer, the infamous murderer and abortionist, Kermit Gosnell.
Gosnell mutilated and killed pregnant women and murdered untold numbers of pre and post viable babies while completely ignoring all health regulations. He was protected by politicians on both sides of the isle and operated with impunity until a drug enforcement investigation discovered that not only was he running a opiate drug ring but also a brutal abortion mill.
