The NEA: Cultural Marxism Exhibit 1

The annual meeting of the NEA is a regular reminder of why no parent should entrust the education of their children to members of the union.

The National Education Association is the largest labor union in the United States, and the most dangerous. They are supposed to advocate for teachers, but are instead a far-left activist organization.

The NEA’s annual budget is around $300 Million and they boast between 2-3 million dues paying members.

While the NEA has a stated position of “non-partisan” – a requirement due to its non-profit status -, it almost exclusively supports the Democratic Party.

The NEA’s governing body, the Representative Assembly, meets each summer set national education policy.

Each summer, approximately 6,000 educators meet to debate the vital issues that impact American public education and set National Education Association policy and activities for the year ahead. These delegates represent the 3 million members of the NEA

The 2022 NEA Policy Priorities

If the list list of policy priorities (below) looks like a laundry list of political positions from the extreme left, that is because that is exactly what it is. From pushing mandatory masking and covid “vaccination”, to imposing sexually inappropriate gender ideology, or pushing climate extremism, the policy priorities of the NEA really do include everything a radical cultural marxist would hope for.

The acronym NBI stands for the words New Business Items, which refers to the propositions that the NEA representatives vote on.

The most striking is the vehemently pro-abortion NBI 37, which states:

The NEA will publicly stand in defense of abortion and reproductive rights and encourage members to participate in … rallies and demonstrations, lobbying and political campaigns, educational events, and other actions to support the right to abortion.

NEA NBI 37

The following is a good highlight of the rest of the policy points being voted on.

NBI 11 seeks to focus on selecting only radical leftists like themselves to school boards.

NBI 34 the “NEA will publicly stand in defense of abortion and reproductive rights and encourage members to participate in … rallies and demonstrations, lobbying and political campaigns, educational events, and other actions to support the right to abortion.”

NBI 37 calls for nationwide mandatory masking and COVID vaccines.

NBI 41 vows to fight against the state of Florida for its law protecting minors from sexually and age inappropriate content.

NBI 53 creates a “climate justice” and “environmental racism” task force.

NBI 63 eliminates the use of the terms “mother” and “father” from teacher’s contracts.

NBI 66 seeks to attack the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.

NBI 72 seeks to use the NEA’s digital communications to educate the public about the war in Ukraine.

Notably missing from the NEA’s NBI’s were any proposals to actually help children who attend public school learn better.

Prominent supporters of the NEA are lifelong member Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who attended the conference and made a speech to an adoring crow of “majority female and trans and gender non-confirming folx.”

Meg Kilgannon, senior fellow for education at the Family Research Council, told “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” on Wednesday that “It’s the leftist/progressive political agenda that’s being pushed on children at the expense of their education.”
